First up is French House/Electro/Hip Hop label Ed Banger Records and their annual compilation release simply titled 'Ed Rec Vol. III'. This is the label that unleashed Justice onto mass audiences and a guarantee to move arses.
Big up to The Gune for putting me onto the next release, 'Night Ripper' by Girl Talk back in November of last year. A mash-up of tracks that you know but will spend hours wracking your brain trying to figure out who it is. Try and not search for information on this, at least try and figure it out. I've added the break down of every track as a spoiler. Listen first though and see if you can figure it out.
Third up is the release that should've seen the light in 2002 when former Slum Village member and producer supreme Jay Dee/J-Dilla was signed to MCA. One track became really known and that was the heavy handed ditty 'F@#k The Police'. Dilla was often dubbed "your favorite producer's favorite producer," and was highly regarded by hip hop artists and producers such as Common, Kanye West, A Tribe Called Quest, Just Blaze, Busta Rhymes, Lupe Fiasco, Pharrell Williams, Madlib, and ?uestlove.
Finally we have 'Pay Jay (Unreleased J-Dilla MCA Album)'. Unfortunately as with all greats his time on this earth was cut short due to Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) a rare blood disease on February 10th, 2006, just three-days after his 32nd birthday. Last up is a compilation from Verve Records, the fourth installment of their successful remix sessions. Aptly titled 'Verve Remixed 4'. Artists getting remixed are Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, Marlena Shaw, Roy Ayers, Willie Bobo, Ella Fitzgerald, Astrud Gilberto amongst others. With remixes by Cinematic Orchestra, 9th Wonder, Diplo, Kenny Dope, Antibalas and others.
